Laurier Cote, of St Bruno de guigues, will travel to Oklahoma to compete in the National Reining Horse
Association World Championship. Mr Cote won the Eastern Canada Affiliate Championship in Hamilton, Ontario
this month with his 4 year old Quarter Horse Mare, "Choca Yba Lena". Over 1200 Competitors from around the
world will VIE for a purse of $1.4 million and prizes, including custom made saddles and Horse trailers.
Mr Cote has been training and competing reining horses for 10 years. "You have only 2 minutes to
demonstrate your horses ability to perform precision turns, stops, slides, and spins" Explains Mr Cote.
The entire pattern is performed at the canter, on a loose rein, with the horse maintaining a relaxed
posture. This is no easy feat, and Mr Cote makes it look effortless.
Mr Cote has turned a lifelong passion for horses into a successful equestrian enterprise. he obtained a
Diploma in Equine Technology at the Institue de technologie Agricole de la Pocatiere, where he met his mate,
Chantal Cimon. "After obtaining our diplomas, we travelled to italy, where we were stable managers for 3
months. Eighty horses were under our care, this was a great preparation for starting our own business."
The Partners founded "Centre d'entrainment Pro Chevalin" in St Bruno de Guigues, two years ago.
An investment of $200,000 has permitted them to construct an indoor arena measuring 80x224' with a
30x80 stable at one end. The enterprise placed 2nd last year in the Entrepreneur Competition in the
Province of Quebec in the category of Service Business, after having obtained the Regional "Coup de Coeur".
In the past year, more than 120 clients have entered the training center. Mr Cote also has a large
clientele for his farrier services, for which he is well known and respected.
Highlights of the 2005 NRHA Futurity will run on "Americas Horse", on the TV-G Network. also, Mr
Cote is looking for local sponsors in order to help support his on-going competitions. Any and all
donations can be made by contacting equinenorth.com, on Lauriers page.
